Prayer for Wisdom
My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom, and from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. ~Proverbs 2: 1 – 8
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge
of the Holy One is understanding. ~
Proverbs 9: 10
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Let me
forsake all false gods: the gods of wealth, success and prosperity; the gods of
comfort and safety; the gods of beauty, power and status; the gods of leisure
and entertainment. Give me instead a
pure heart to seek Your face and love You above all earthly treasures.
You, Lord
give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Keep me from
misusing Your holy name. Keep me from selfish and evil prayers, from cursing
and flippant jesting, from slandering Your character or misrepresenting Your
promises. Bless me only to pray, praise
and to give You thanks with a right heart and pure spirit, bringing requests to
You in reverent confidence and blessing Your name.
You,
Lord give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Empower
me with Your Spirit to keep Your name and Your day holy, to love and cherish
Your holy Word so that I meditate on it day and night. Let Your holy day be kept holy in my life,
that I never forsake or take for granted Your Word or sacraments but instead
gladly and with a joyful heart partake of Your good gifts and the fellowship of
believers.

Lord give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Keep me
from abusing my position, power or authority over my children or my
subordinates. Preserve me from
complacency, keep me focused and present for those who need my leadership and
guidance. Preserve me from pride, from
unjust anger or rage, from favoritism or discrimination. Bless me to love my parents and to honor
those in authority over me. Let me use the authority and position that You have
given me to love and serve others.
You, Lord
give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Preserve
me from any act of physical harm to another person, that I would not injure
anyone in their body nor cause their unjust death. Keep me from hatred, anger
or contempt. Bless me to love and serve
others, to protect their health and wellbeing, and to show them respect as Your
uniquely created and dearly loved children.
You, Lord give wisdom and from Your
mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Preserve
me from sexual sins, from abuse of my sexuality or the abuse of others through
this gift. Keep me from lust and
adultery. Protect my marriage and the
marriages of those around me with faithfulness, mutual respect and physical joy
and pleasure.
You,
Lord give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Keep me
from taking from others in any unlawful or unjust way. Guide me from the theft of property, ideas or
the creative works of other people. Lead
me instead to respect, preserve and protect the work of other people, to
support their ability to make a living in the vocation and with the gifts you
have given them, and to honor their unique contributions to society.
You,
Lord give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Preserve me from gossip, lies, destructive and
unfair assumptions, flippant comments, and even gestures or expressions which
would disrespect others, or put their character or reputation at risk. Help me
to see the impact of my words. Bless me
with words of truth, wisdom, compassion and love, and to begin with the kindest
assumptions about others.
You,
Lord give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, give me wisdom and understanding as I fear, love and
trust in You above all things. Preserve
me from coveting anything that does not belong to me: the wealth and possessions of other people;
the position, authority or status of others; their gifts, abilities, talents;
their social circle, family situation or relationships; their physical health, strength
or appearance. Instead bless me with
Godly contentment, with trust in You to meet all of my needs here in time and
in eternity, and with a sincere desire to help all people preserve and protect
the belongings and circumstances with which You have blessed them.
You,
Lord give wisdom and from Your mouth come knowledge and understanding.
Lord, You have promised to give generously to those who lack
wisdom and who come to You with the sincere desire for Your wisdom. Give me both the sincere desire for Your
wisdom and accurate insight into the wisdom that I lack. Bless me according to Your infinite wisdom
and Your lovingkindness, for Jesus sake and in His name. AMEN
